New mayor and first ever mayor's cadet appointed for North Lincolnshire

Councillor Trevor Foster has been chosen as the new mayor of North Lincolnshire alongside Councillor Peter Clark as the deputy mayor. Cadet Corporal Kyron Seaman (aged 15) an Army Cadet has been appointed as the first mayor's cadet for North Lincolnshire.

Kyron will accompany the Mayor on key mayoral duties, including attending flag raising ceremonies, remembrance parades and services, and civic services. ​

Trevor’s chosen charities that will benefit from the Mayor’s Appeal Fund are Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Trevor was born and educated in Scunthorpe. He has served North Lincolnshire Council since 2005.

He has been a Messingham parish councillor for over 30 years. He worked for the Steelworks in the IT department for 39 years and is now retired. He is a former Messingham Junior School governor and Sport for All organiser and a Scunthorpe United Football Club season ticket holder. Trevor has been a member of the Messingham Horse and Foal Society Show Committee for many years and is the current chairman.

Trevor was previously Mayor from May 2014 to May 2015.

During Cllr Helen Rowson’s year as Mayor of North Lincolnshire, she attended 194 events and raised £19,499 for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.

Coun Foster said: “I am delighted to be stepping back into the shoes of Mayor of North Lincolnshire once again. It is a great honour. It was a real privilege being Mayor before, so it is fantastic to be able to do it for a second time. It’s wonderful being able to meet lots of people and get out into communities. For the first time ever in North Lincolnshire I will be accompanied by the Mayor’s Cadet at some events, which I am really looking forward to.

“Throughout my year as Mayor I hope to raise as much money as possible for my chosen charities and promote North Lincolnshire.”

Maj Mumby, Commanding Officer E Company, Humberside and South Yorkshire Army Cadet Force, said: “We are pleased to have the honour of providing the first Mayor’s Cadet for North Lincolnshire. Although this year’s Mayor’s Cadet comes from the Army Cadets, we represent not just the Army’s Cadet Force but the other uniformed services also. Having a Mayor’s Cadet helps to raise the profile of the uniformed youth services and shows that youngsters in North Lincolnshire have options for extracurricular activities and don’t necessarily have to hang around on street corners getting up to no good. The Army Cadet Force in North and North East Lincolnshire is nearly 300 strong and offer places to 12 to 18 year old girls and boys. We have 10 dedicated training centres across the area with nearly 50 adult volunteers giving their time freely to support the youth of the area. The Army Cadet Force motto is ‘to inspire to achieve’ and this honour certainly lives up to that.”
