Coun Gill Rymer,71, said: “Spilsby has died. When you come into the town you see empty shops and the White Hart Hotel that used to be the hub for meetings and activities.

“I want to put Spilsby in someone’s eye so it becomes a thriving town again. It doesn’t give you much heart to see it as it is.”

A member of the Spilsby Town Council for more than 10 years, Coun Rymer was also Mayor from 2006-8. She said: “I’m really looking forward to it. You meet people from all around the county and it’s something to talk about.”
She received her chain of office last night from Coun Julia Pears, who told the annual meeting of Spilsby Town Council she has enjoyed her year. She said: “I’d like to thank the councillors for their support and I have enjoyed attending the functions in the town. My chartity has been the art section of Linkage and proceeds will go towards buying costumes and props for the shows.”
