New mobile library serviceaims to meetYOUR needs

THE mobile library service in Lincolnshire is aiming to provide a more user-friendly service, tailored to meet the needs of rural residents.

As a result, the mobile libraries will now be off the road until May 1 while they are re-stocked and new timetables are publicised.

The new timetables are designed to complement the hours of smaller, community libraries and the county library service says it has used local knowledge to identify more appropriate stopping points within villages.

In response to demand from customers and to enable better IT connectivity, the minimum stop will now be 30 minutes, giving access to a service more like that available at branch libraries.

Information about the numbers of customers using current stops and the distance from stops to static libraries has been taken into account when deciding the new timetables.

Housebound library users will be visited by a new, smaller ‘Access’ mobile.

Lincolnshire County Council’s executive councillor for cultural services, Coun Eddy Poll, said: “These changes will not only improve the quality of the service to our existing customers, but will also give us the opportunity to attract new users.

“The specialised mobiles will improve services by targeting places such as primary schools and additional needs settings. Making better use of our resources may also allow for some small increases in static provision in the future.

“These changes are in line with the recommendations of the Fundamental Library Review and will bring greater flexibility and sustainability to the delivery of library services to Lincolnshire communities.”
