New plans submitted for Gainsborough town centre homes scheme

Linden Homes Midlands Ltd has submitted a new planning application to West Lindsey District Council to build a four-storey apartment block of 24 flats and a row of 15 terraced houses at the entrance to Marshall’s Rise.

The flats, on land to the north of Spring Gardens, would be a mixture of one and two bedrooms, with parking provided beneath the apartment block at lower ground level. The row of 15 three-bedroom terraced houses would occupy land to the east of Station Approach.

Planning documents submitted on behalf of the applicant say the development - a revision to one previously approved for the site - would complete the residential scheme at the former site of the Britannia Ironworks, which closed in 1947.

Barry Maynard, planning and development director for Linden Homes, said: “The application seeks permission to build a number of homes, which will be particularly attractive to first-time buyers, on an existing Linden Homes development close to the town centre.

“The scheme is the final stage of this development and if planning permission is granted, we hope to be on site later this year.”

Details contained within the application suggest the proposed houses and apartment building would be constructed from red brick “which is sympathetic to the local area”, with the windows and doors coloured dark grey “taking precedent from the industrial buildings to the south of the site”.

It adds: “The design aesthetic for the apartments has been influenced by the existing local vernacular taking precedent from the neighbouring Marshall’s Yard retail park’s railway and industrial buildings. The selected materials are typical of the local area.”
