New police horse meets Maltby public

THERE is a new four-legged friend on the streets of Maltby.

Maltby the horse is the latest addition to South Yorkshire Police’s mounted section.

The four-year-old joined the force around four weeks ago and since then has been out meeting members of the public.

For several days last week the horse assisted officers in Maltby, visited local schools and met with town councillors and the general public.

During one day he met pupils at Hilltop School before patrolling around Maltby.

He was then taken to the Edward Dunn Memorial Centre where he met with town councillors and staff.

Youngsters at Maltby Manor Primary were the next up to meet the horse.

The pupils had a talk from the mounted section of the force before assisting in some training by making as much noise as possible, to ensure that Maltby gets used to loud noises.

Many more school visit and public appearances are planned for Maltby in the coming months.
