New speed limit will improve ‘dangerous’ junction

A local campaigner, who lobbied the county council for improved safety measures at a ‘dangerous’ junction between Woodthorpe and Beesby, has said she is pleased a reduced speed limit has been introduced on the adjoining stretch of road.

As reported last November, Janet Stubbs - with support from local councillors and Victoria Atkins MP - had campaigned for changes to the ‘Beesby Crossroads’ which connects the A1104 and the B1373, following several accidents and near misses reported there in recent years.

In the last few weeks, the adjoining stretch of main road has been reduced to a 50mph limit, down from the National Speed Limit (60mph).

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “This request was put forward by the county councillor for the area, and we assessed it as being appropriate for a 50mph limit.

“The new speed limit signs were installed on January 29 and we’re really pleased to know that the residents are happy with the changes made here to increase safety here.”

Mrs Stubbs said she was ‘really thrilled’ with the speed limit alteration, and she would like to thank all those involved.
