BARLBOROUGH Heritage and Visitors’ Centre: Thursday 6th September commences the start of the National Heritage Weekend. Barlborough Heritage Centre will be displaying the History of the Primary School and Village. Admission is free and the doors will be open 8.30am-1pm. On Saturday as well as the Heritage Centre being open the 12th Century Church of St James will also be open. Free guided tours will be available at 10am, 11am and 12noon. You will be able to pick a free Heritage Trail Walk leaflet up from the Heritage Centre. Tea and coffee will be available at the church. Don’t miss this rare opportunity.

BARLBOROUGH History Group: Meetings have been temporarily suspended. The group have chosen instead to do site visits to Historical places of interest with connections to Barlborough.

ST LUKE’S Music Group, St Luke’s Church: First and third Sunday in the month and meet previous Wednesday in church 7.30pm to rehearse.

WI: No meeting was held in August but we did have a daytime trip to the Cutlers’ Hall at Sheffield. The next meeting is on 20th September at 7pm in the Shireoaks Village Hall and features Mrs Susan Deal talking on the subject of the Victorian Workhouse. Visitors and new members will be very welcome. Prior to that we have a trip to Stockport to the Hat Factory/museum and shopping centre on 18th September. An event that should not be missed is Lesley Smith, Curator of Tutbury Castle, giving one of her highly amusing and entertaining talks in character as Nell Gwynn. This is to be held in the Church Hall on Friday 5th October at 7.30pm and includes a buffet supper and glass of wine and is open to all. Tickets are £8 and can be obtained from any committee member or by ringing Helen on 487984 or Dawn on 478101. Tickets are selling out fast so don’t delay - you may regret it.
