No scaring off the competition at show

The annual Scarecrow building contest was a big hit with David Machin scooping first place for his replica of a Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance - complete with Scarecrow paramedic.

Village Hall Chairman Geoff Panton, who was involved in organising the event, said: “He’d been working on the design since just after Christmas. We had some great entries with the Plough Inn coming second and a Dalek coming third.”

The village show has been running for around 15 years and also featured about 200 exhibits of crafts, flower arrangements and produce - plus a fun dog show where titles included ‘Best Sausage Catcher’ and ‘Waggiest Tail.’

Mr Panton added: “The general report is that the show was a great success.

“We raised about £800 which will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the village hall. The idea is that the show brings the community together.”

The village hall was opened in 2013, costing just short of £200,000, built with fundraising and grants.
