No serious injuries in A57 Todwick smash

Motorists faced delays on the A57 near Todwick this morning (Sunday) while the road was closed following a crash at around 8.20am.

A blue Vauxhall Meriva and a silver Peugeot 307 collided while travelling in opposite directions.

It happened on the notoriously dangerous stretch known locally at Todwick Bends.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed there were no serious injuries, although the female Peugeot driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

She was cut free from her car by firefighters from nearby Aston fire station.

A recent public inquiry into planned improvements to the A57 between M1 junction 31 and Todwick Crossroads heard there had been 100 accidents over the last ten years.

Ten people have died, 26 were seriously injured and 144 slightly injured.
