Contingency firefighters attended a serious house fire on Nursery Road, North Anston, just over two hours into Thursday’s Fire Brigade Union’s 24-hour strike.

They were called at 11.08am to reports of a loft on fire and around 18 firefighters were sent to the scene.

They used an aerial platform ladder and hose reels to put out the flames and stop the fire from spreading to the adjoining property.
