Fans across the world were inspired to raise money for the South Yorkshire charity after the group’s Louis Tomlinson, who grew up in Doncaster, became a supporter.

Over $22,000, or £14,000, was raised after an American fan named ‘Amy’ launched a just giving page in honour of Louis’s 22nd birthday last year.

After exceeding this fundraising goal, the One Direction fans are aiming to meet and even surpass the £14,000 goal before Tomlinson’s 23rd birthday on Wednesday 24th December 2014.

Claire Rintoul, chief executive of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice said she was ‘delighted’ about the fundraising efforts from One Direction fans.

She added: ”It’s so heart-warming to see Louis Tomlinson fans from all over the world donate to his birthday appeal to raise funds for our children at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.”

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their support from all of us at here at Bluebell Wood.”

“Every penny really does count and the money raised will go a long way to helping us provide the best care possible for local children with life limiting conditions who need our support,” she added.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice provides vital support for children with life-limiting medical conditions and their families, giving them the chance to make the most of the time they have together.

As well as end of life hospice care at their North Anston site, Bluebell Wood also provide free respite care, help at home, and friendly advice and support for families across South Yorkshire and the North Midlands.
