A planning application has been submitted to Rotherham Council to build a Christian meeting hall on the site of the old scrapyard and former builder’s merchant site in North Anston.

he meeting hall site, off Common Road, will also include some of the old railway embankment next to the North Anston Industrial site.

The application is the result of two years work by the applicants and their design team to design a building in a suitable location for a meeting hall and car parking for a local Christian community.

A previous proposal for a hall of worship and school on green belt land off Todwick Road was refused in 2013.

The meeting hall is now proposed on the brownfield site of the former builder’s merchant and scrapyard with car parking on adjacent land. The site is to be densely landscaped including many new mature trees, planting of new hedges and a pond.

The ecological value of the area will be greatly improved by creating better habitats for wildlife,” said a spokesperson.
