North Anston: Volunteers step in to give grieving Mum a beautiful new garden

A grieving mother who lost her soldier son in Afghanistan has given thanks to a charity who stepped in to offer support by giving her garden a much-needed makeover.

Jane Elliot, of North Anston, has praised Forces Support for giving her ‘one little less thing to worry about’ after her loss.

Two volunteers from the charity came to Jane’s home from Monday 2nd March- Friday 6th March to clear rubble, lay turf and add a brand new patio.

Jane, who sadly lost her son Gavin in 2009, said: “You have days where you don’t want to get out of bed, and I used to look at the garden and think- where do I even start?”
“But Forces Support have given me a peaceful place to go out into and reflect- I can’t believe the transformation!”

Jane, who insisted on picking up a rake and mucking in with the project, added: “I can’t thank Forces Support enough, and Terry’s Skips and Ryton DIY who also help ed outr. They’re all lovely people and their support is totally appreciated.”
