It would be ‘by far their most ambitious’ to date, the Standard wrote, for as well as being performed at the Regal Cinema – a far larger venue than any used before – they were also hoping for a spot on Anglia television.

The move to the Regal (from Boston Grammar School) would take the audience capacity from 400 to 1,400.

Publicity manager Mr E. Haynes said: “We have some wonderful stage effects for this year’s show, some of them are entirely new to Boston. Also, Mr Ralph Howden, the Regal manager, is giving us full use of his lighting and sound effects.”

A cast of 110 boys and men would be in the show, utilising a total of 250 costumes, which were all being made fresh for the production or re-made from previous years.
