Notts: Conservatives say GCSE improvement is down to their vision

Compared with all 151 local authorities nationally, Notts was 51st for students gaining five or more GCSE’s at grades A* to C, including maths and English, having been 55th in 2012.

And for students gaining five or more GCSEs at the grades A* to C across all subjects, Notts ranked 23rd this year, having been 29th in 2012.

“After four years of Conservative control, Nottinghamshire is now ranked 23rd for GCSE performance nationally, up from 118th in 2006-07 under Labour, which speaks for itself,” said Coun Owen.

“When we took over, we inherited teachers and pupils who were hungry to show what they could achieve. We gave them the freedom to be successful and they take the credit.”

“However, there are still schools that should be performing better and although many are free from direct local authority control, the council still has a role in setting performance targets.”

“The improvement rate must be maintained.”
