Coun Alan Rhodes, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We welcome today’s news of the Government’s continued commitment to the “Y” network for HS2 and a station in the East Midlands.”

“We understand the need to secure the best connectivity and benefits to the local economy that HS2 will bring and for that reason Nottinghamshire County Council remains fully committed to Toton as an ideal place for a station for the East Midlands.”

“The consultation document published by HS2 Ltd has already identified Toton as being the place that provides excellent overall connectivity for Nottinghamshire as a whole – including places to the north of the county like Kirkby and Mansfield – and we believe that a hub there would serve both Nottingham and Derby.”

“It will bring enormous economic benefits to Nottinghamshire as a whole, as well as improving travel time for passengers.”

“Bringing HS2 to Nottinghamshire, combined with the dualling of the A453 and the much-needed improvements to the Midland Main Line will help make our county a place where businesses can flourish.”

“We believe that Toton has already been demonstrated as the best place for HS2, both for the economy of Nottinghamshire and the region as a whole.”

“We remain to be convinced that there is a better alternative and are happy to work with HS2 on future plans.”

“However, we are concerned about any alternative which might see any significant reduction in the benefits we are hoping for from Toton and over the uncertainty that is being caused by the delay in announcing a decision.”
