Notts: Final chance to urge Prime Minister to stop ‘unfair’ cuts

The Fair Deal for Notts campaign petition closes on 31st March and calls on the PM to rethink the huge cuts in funding for local council services and review the policy of making the largest cuts in areas where deprivation is highest.

According to the county council, only five similar authorities in the country will see a bigger reduction in ‘spending power.’

Despite already cutting more than £100million from its budgets and shedding 3,000 jobs since 2010, the council’s main source of Government funding, the Revenue Support Grant is being cut by a further 21 per cent over the next two years.

This is equivalent to a £63 cut per resident in Notts, double that of more affluent areas in the south of England such as Buckinghamshire (£29.84 cut per person) and Surrey (£32.74 cut per person).

The Fair Deal for Notts petition will be handed in at 10 Downing Street by Coun Alan Rhodes, Leader of Notts County Council this Spring.

Councillor Rhodes said: “It’s vital that the people of Notts speak with a united voice and tell the Government that enough is enough.”

“This campaign is not about politics - I appeal to everyone to join us in telling the Government that what they are doing is wrong.”

“We want a fair deal for Notts services and a fair deal for Notts people.”
