Notts: Gritting crew are ready for action

With weather reports forecasting the first major chill of the winter next week gritting crews at Notts County Council are ready to swing into action.

The teams have been on standby since 1st November and have already gritted a handful of times as road surface temperatures have dropped below freezing overnight.

But with forecasters predicting more freezing temperatures this weekend and the arrival of snow in some places by mid-week, the county’s crews are likely to be a regular sight on Notts roads.

Each time the teams go out they salt approximately 1,120 miles of road across Notts, concentrating on A and B roads and main bus routes.

Coun Kevin Greaves, chairman of the transport and highways committee, said: “The county council gives high priority to winter maintenance and we are determined to keep our county on the move this winter.”

“We are confident that we are in a stronger position than ever to deal with whatever winter throws at us.”
