Notts County Council leaders are inviting the public to view their ideas on 26 of the 58 options agreed by the council’s policy committee.

The council announced earlier this month that it has to save £77 million from the budget by 2017/18.

The cuts are partly down to reductions in Government funding.

The council is also asking residents what they think about a potential increase in Council Tax, which could help to close the budget gap by between £16.5 million and £42.3 million, depending on the level of increase

All together, the council made 58 proposals to save from the budget.

The remaining 22 proposals, relating to changes to internal procedures and staff reorganisation, will be open for comments from employees and unions.

Leader of Notts County Council, Coun Alan Rhodes, said: “This is a time of major, on-going change for public services in Nottinghamshire and in the country as a whole. The changes impact us all, so it is absolutely vital that people have their say on the proposals we are making.”

“Please tell us what you think , we do listen.”

“Following our budget consultation last year we changed a number of the initial proposals, including scrapping plans to do away with a specialist service for people with Aspergers, keeping open a community cafe run by trainees with disabilities and retaining our welfare advice service.”
