Notts: Last chance to have your say on alcohol and licensing issues

Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping, is urging members of the public to give their views before he ‘calls time’ at midnight on Sunday 22nd September.

Reducing the impact of alcohol on crime and antisocial behaviour is a top priority in the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan. This appeal for the public to share their views with him is being made to inform his plans for tackling these problems, which range from rowdiness and increased risk of mental and physical illness to violent crime.

Mr Tipping has spent the last few months gathering a bank of information on the effects of drink on crime and people’s safety with a view to ensuring communities use alcohol in a safe, healthy and social responsible way. Information he has gained includes that from his meetings with organisations and people who range from street pastors and licensing representatives to domestic violence champions and staff in A and E departments.

He said: “Alcohol misuse is clearly not confined to our county, but I find it very disturbing that there has been a significant increase in the number of reports of on street drinking made to the police in Nottinghamshire in the last year.” “It very much points to the extent to which alcohol related nuisance and crime is growing.”
