Notts & Lincs: Youth project is re-launched with new management

The re-launch event took place at Marton Primary School in Gainsborough.

Many local villages are unable to provide activities for young people and the QUEST-ion Youth Project aims to offer a wide range of activities locally so that the young people are not disadvantaged by having to travel out of their own communities.

The QUEST-ion Youth Project has been running as a mission arm of the Methodist circuit in Gainsborough and the Wolds & Trent Circuit for the past three and a half years.

The project engages with young people, in their communities, to offer an experience of Christianity as lived out by the team, and to offer participation in activities designed specifically for young people in their local community and at bigger events elsewhere.

The project leaders are aware that the work is long-term. In order that the project is sustainable, Lincolnshire Youth Mission (LYM) will take over the project and enable it to become ecumenical.

LYM has agreed to become the employers of the project team and a local steering group has been set up to manage the project.

The steering group is made up of representatives of LYM, of Anglican and Methodist churches in Gainsborough and Misterton, and includes a user representative.

The three-strong mission team are at present centred on Marton Primary School, with lunchtime, after-school, and youth clubs, Misterton Primary School, with lunchtime, after-school, and youth club, the lunch club at Misterton’s independent living centre, Gainsborough Academy and Parish School, with a youth group and young people’s Bible study group, Upton youth club, North Kelsey school lunchtime club and Market Rasen school lunchtime club.

The team makes use of a caravan for youth club activities. In addition, they run holiday clubs in the summer holidays and take young people to methodist district camp, methodist district sports events, and a Christian festival.

Rev Liz Childs, methodist minister and director of LYM, and the youth team’s line manager, has led discussions on the future of QUEST-ion.

“LYM and the steering group are very excited about the future of this project,” she said.

“I hope that others across all the Christian denominations will see what we are hoping to achieve and share with us in this re-launch.”

“We want the project to be truly ecumenical and welcome volunteers to support the youth team so that we can take the good news of Christ to wider audiences.”
