Notts: Older women urged to Be Clear on breast cancer

Notts County Council is backing the new Be Clear on Cancer campaign, raising awareness of breast cancer symptoms and risk for women over the age of 70.

Most recent figures show that in Bassetlaw one in three women who get breast cancer are over 70 and survival rates in women over 70 are lower than with younger women.

Coun Joyce Bosnjak chairman of the Notts County Health and Wellbeing Board said: “The fact is that one in three women who get breast cancer is over 70.”

“So don’t assume that you’re out of danger, or just put any possible symptoms of breast cancer as a part of aging. “

“It’s absolutely vital for women to stay vigilant into your 70s and stay aware of the signs and symptoms.”

“And remember, the earlier that you get a diagnosis, the better your chances are of surviving so don’t put off going to see your doctor.”
