The move is in line with the county’s police and crime plan’s objectives aimed at protecting, supporting and responding to victims and witnesses and vulnerable people.

It is also in accordance with commissioner Paddy Tipping’s promise to give extra priority and resources to domestic violence and crimes against girls and women.

Chris Cutland, deputy commissioner and former chief executive of Women’s Aid Nottingham, is leading work in this area for the commissioner. She is asking for tenders for the project to be submitted from individuals or organisations experienced in academic research.

“This research will help me to make informed recommendations leading to greater understanding of the caseload resourcing and management regarding repeat victims of medium risk domestic abuse,” Ms Cutland said. “This understanding will then make it possible to identify opportunities to improve services and processes that support and respond to victims’ individual needs.”

The research, which will include a review of support work, the referrals process, setting up victim focus groups and interviewing individuals will begin in October and will be repesented in August 2015.
