Bassetlaw Council leader Simon Greaves and Coun Sybil Fielding cut the ribbon at the official launch of the 7 Project.

Project leader Shaun Cummings, who created the drop-in centre at the Gospel Hall with his wife Caroline, said they were ‘overwhelmed’ by local support.

“We have been generously supported by local businesses and people who have really stepped up to the plate to give us things from showers and kitchen units to food donations,” he said.

“We want to thank those people who have dug deep - without their generous support the 7 Project would not be able to exist.”

The 7 Project is run by volunteers and offers a helping hand to homeless people, offering them a place to eat, have a shower and wash their clothes.

Said Shaun: “We are there to provide a bridge to normalisation.”

“There are many people out there with life-controlling drink and drug addicitons, and we are are there there to give them a safe place to be.”

He added: “Only the other day we had someone come in and told us that if it wasn’t for us being here they’d have had nowhere to go.”
