“We had tickets for the athletics where we saw Jessica Ennis qualify for the following day’s heptathlon, where of course she won the gold medal.”

She continued: “In the evening we walked from our hotel to Horse Guards Parade to see the beach volleyball – what a party atmosphere we experienced there!”

“We have nothing but praise for the whole organisation of the London Olympics. The whole city was buzzing with excitement, the atmosphere within the Olympic Village and at Horse Guards Parade was outstanding.”

Ivy added: “It made us extremely proud to be British. The whole Games have been a fantastic success and it is so good to fly the Union Jack with pride.”
