'˜The only way is up' for Aby designer James

A man from Aby near Louth has had his designs selected for top online fashion store Asos's t-shirt line following a contest set up by The Prince's Trust.

James Streather, 26, took part in The Prince’s Trust’s “Tomorrow’s Talent” initiative, which was launched to mark their 40th anniversary.

The contest, now set to be an annual event helps youngsters facing difficulty harness their creative potential, and raise vital funds for the Trust.

James struggled with social anxiety from a young age. He found a love for art, but could not find suitable employment in that field, despite having done an apprenticeship in an art studio.

An artist friend, James Gillick, recommended James to The Prince’s Trust and he was quickly was accepted onto the Trust’s Enterprise Programme.

James is now thanking the Trust for helping him to build up his confidence. He said: “I felt like everyone had a lesson in school on how to succeed and get on with people and that I missed it. The Prince’s Trust gave me another chance to learn that lesson.

“The Prince’s Trust has given me the confidence and the practical tools to set up my own business and to go that step further to be successful. I can now look at the future with confidence.”

The competition saw 300 entries across the country and the winners designs, including James’ were showcased at an event in London recently. A number of celebrity Prince’s Trust ambassadors also came along to the event to congratulate the winners.

The products, which will be sold in support of The Prince’s Trust and will be launched online in the autumn.
