Be a good neighbour

Along with the wonderful show of national pride from residents over the past few days, I have been overwhelmed by the incredible show of community spirit shown by folks.

Worksop police officers supported street parties across the town and were very encouraged to see a sense of camaraderie and unity among partygoers.

We all did a bit of flag waving, watched the Queen on the Thames and enjoyed the Royal concert without any cause for police action.

There seemed to be a number of four-day parties going off and people were certainly taking advantage of having extra days off work by enjoying our nightlife.

On the whole though I am pleased to say that crime is continuing to fall with a 18.9 per cent reduction compared to the same time last June, and an overall 12 per cent fall in crime compared to last year.

In a bid to harness the abundance in community spirit displayed during the Jubilee long weekend, Nottinghamshire County Council is launching the ‘Good Neighbour’ campaign.

From Monday 11th June 2012 the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board (NSAB), supported by the police, are going to be actively encouraging residents to look out for their elderly, vulnerable and disabled neighbours.

Everybody needs good neighbours, and as part of the Good Neighbour campaign, leaflets will be distributed among the community sharing top tips on how to provide better support to your neighbours and, in turn, help reduce the number of people who have falls, accidents or become victims of abuse or crime.
