Dedication paid off

We already know there are a great team of police officers and staff here at Worksop, but this week I’d like to commend the excellent and tenacious work of one particular officer.

Thanks to 18 months of dedicated efforts by Carlton-in-Lindrick beat manager PC John Graham, a drug dealer and his illegal trade has been removed from our villages.

Last week Richard Caldwell, of Knaton Street, was sentenced to four years and three months imprisonment for Class A and Class B drug offences.

From arrest to sentencing, PC Graham has been painstakingly thorough in what has been an extremely complex investigation.

This was sterling work by PC Graham and his colleagues and the significant jail term Caldwell received is testament to these efforts.

Be assured that we leave no stone unturned in the fight to rid West Bassetlaw of illegal drugs.

We do not tolerate any activity of this nature and are determined to bring to justice those who damage our communities in this manner.

Another scourge on society at the moment is metal theft and we have had our own specific issues in West Bassetlaw around the theft of catalytic converters from vans.

I urge tradespeople such as plumbers, carpenters, builders and electricians who work out of their vans to be vigilant and protect against potential thieves.

Reduce the chance of your van being a target for thieves in the first place. Don’t leave tools in your vehicle overnight.

Ensure ladders are secured to the van or locked away in a shed or garage when unattended and never leave keys in the ignition.

By doing these simple things you can help us reduce this type of theft, which can have a great impact on a person’s business and in turn, their livelihood.

Finally, we’ve swapped one Mark for another this month. I’d like to welcome Sgt Mark Goddard to the West Bassetlaw Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Sgt Goddard replaces Sgt Mark Lee heading up the North East, North West and Carlton-in-Lindrick and Langold beats.

We wish the best for Sergeant Lee, who after five years working on neighbourhoods is moving to Sergeant Goddard’s previous spot with the Worksop response team.
