No money included for a bus station

The County Council has published its transport plan for the next year and I can confirm that it has not included any money for a Worksop bus station.

It is there in black and white. Despite all the huffing and puffing in letters to this paper, the council has not included any money to build it in its budget for next year.

I hope that public pressure will change their minds, but I am not holding my breath.

Instead what I predict it will do is have a feasibility study and then try to dump the problem on Bassetlaw Council.

This is not good enough as the county council takes the vast proportion of your council taxes.

Furthermore it has not included any road or transport schemes for Bassetlaw, with even the Welham by-pass outside Retford removed from their ‘to do’ list, while the south of the county gets £200 million in planned schemes.

I appreciate that no Worksop councillors voted for this, but our county councillors from the rural areas and Retford did. I will leave it to them to explain their priorities.

As usual we get inaccurate letters disputing the facts, therefore I am making their plan available on my website and copies to anyone who doesn’t want to take my word for it.

Yet again Nottingham and Mansfield have left us with nothing and the petition for the bus station takes even greater importance.

The deeply unpopular Health Bill is voted on in Parliament next Tuesday, despite doctors and other health professionals and organisations calling for it to be dropped.

In particular it threatens the very future of the NHS by opening everything up to competition.

We have very recently witnessed the scandal of the PIP breast implants which resurrected the old problems of the private sector running away when things go wrong.

I have consistently promoted improvements in the NHS, but change for changes sake is very dangerous and it wastes huge amounts of our money.

My message to the Government next week is very simple: Get Your Sticky Mitts off our NHS!
