Sporting team spirit

So here we are again. Propelled out of a major football tournament on penalties.

But in pleasing news, we are happy to say that throughout England’s Euro 2012 campaign there hasn’t been a single football-related incident reported to us.

Those of you who didn’t get to the Ukraine or Poland, but instead took to town centre pubs and bars to watch the games, have been a testament to Worksop in your behaviour.

It’s been a tense and, ultimately, disappointing contest, but this has not been reflected in bad behaviour on the streets.

In other news, in continued efforts to tackle street drinking in the town centre on a more holistic level, with positive long-term results the aim.

We are now referring town centre cases to the Bassetlaw Drugs and Alcohol Service.

So far we have five alcohol-dependant people referred to and willing to attend this free service.

Anyone with concerns about their own or others’ drinking habits can contact the service on 01909 487169, email [email protected] or visit www.bassetlaw-pct.nhs.uk

From the streets on to the roads, we have received a number of complaints about vehicles disobeying the road rules.

Some motorists are travelling up Newcastle Street and turning right along Watson Road.

Other vehicles are also travelling the wrong way up the one-way system outside Argos, in Bridge Place.

Observe the very visible signs, or you will be subject to a fine or prosecution.

After the overwhelming display of community spirit shown during the Jubilee weekend, we are convinced more than ever that there are people out there who care about their neighbourhoods and want to give back to their community.
