Happy memories

Reading about meals at The Queens Head in Worksop in last weeks Guardian brought back memories of the early 40s.

My uncle, Charles Stevenson and his wife Evelyn, helped Evelyn’s parents, Mr and Mrs Shirtcliffe to run the Queens. We went in the back yard as children to play with our cousin Hazle.

In the kitchen there was an old brown stone sink with a pump, the only water supply and in the Tap Room, we were allowed to play on a pianolium.

Happy days.
