Poppy Appeal thanks

On behalf of the members of the Worksop Branch of the Royal British Legion I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the public of Worksop, and its surrounding areas for their very generous donations to this years poppy appeal.

Thanks should also go to the volunteers that stood in local supermarkets, local people who distributed and collected the boxes to over 300 outlets.

Not forgetting the people including the Army and Air cadets who braved the cold weather collecting on the streets for several hours at a time. The excellent team work of all the people involved has resulted in £19,183.58 being banked to date. The Poppy Appeal runs from 1st October 2013 until 30th September 2014 so during the coming months we will be building on this to exceed £20,000 by the end of the appeal.

The generosity of local people will allow us to carry on the work of the Royal British Legion giving our beneficiaries the help and support they need.

Our work is needed more today than it was in 1921 when The Royal British Legion was formed. We are seeing some horrific injuries coming from Afghanistan as well as young bereaved families, and donations such as these will help us to support those in need today and for the rest of their lives.

Next year is a special year as we commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War and the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Any one wishing to run an event to commemorate either of these anniversaries in aid of the Royal British Legion can contact me on 07500 553164 for any assistance that I can give.

May I wish you and all your readers a very happy Christmas and good health for 2014.
