A spokesman from Western Power Distribution said the outage at about 1am was caused by a fault in the cabling which was being investigated and hopefully repaired later today.

He said 2,800 of those properties affected had power back within two minutes of the incident occuring, with the remainder back on within the hour.

He said there should be no further outages as repairs are carried out.
