Outwood Academy students raise £51,000 in funds towards Kenya trip of a lifetime

The eighteen students are already embarking on a number of fundraising activities, inlcuding bag packing at local supermarkets and bake sales, in order to hit their target.

During the trip, which will take place in 2016, the youngsters will work with Kenyan children from underprivileged backgrounds in community development projects such as building and teaching.

The expedition will be run in conjunction with African Adventures, who specialise in recruiting volunteers to offer humanitarian support within deeply impoverished communities in Ghana and Africa.

Student Faye Martindale, who is hoping to participate in the trip, said: “The expedition will place each of us in situations that cannot be replicated in our classrooms, seperating us from our peers as we make new and lasting friendships.

“It will improve our teamwork and leadership skills that can be transferred to our future chosen careers.”

There will also be a Halloween-themed family event at Hodsock Priory to raise further funds on Friday, October 25 from 1pm-5pm. The event will feature a woodland treasure trail, campfire, raffle and more.
