Nevermind the Music Store, in Church Street, will cease trading on Saturday, December 21.

The business was opened in 2001 by the late Gareth Skinner.

Gareth died suddenly in October of last year, and since then the business has been run by his family.

In October of this year, the family announced ‘with a sad and heavy heart’ that the shop would be closing, explaining that changing consumer patterns due to the internet and the emotional toll of losing Gareth had both played a part in their decision.

In the run-up to the closure, the family have been offering customers the chance to take home a memento of the business – one of the white cardboard packets used to store CDs, all featuring Gareth’s handwriting. In return, customers have been asked to make a donation to the British Heart Foundation.

To date, some £300 has been raised for the charity and the family hope to hit their target of £500 by their last day of trading.

Natalie Skinner, one of Gareth’s daughters said: “We’re overwhelmed with the generosity of people. We suggested 50p donations but most people have given lots more than that.”

While there is no closing down sale planned, the business says it has ‘lots of offers’ that will run until its final day.
