Parents urged to get in early

PARENTS whose kids are starting school for the first time next September are being urged to get their applications in early.

The application process for first admissions to reception class at primary school closes on 15th January 2012.

Parents are reminded that if their child attends a school’s foundation unit, nursery class or early years’ group, it does not guarantee that they will get a place at the main school at reception age, and they must still complete an application for a full-time place, said a Notts County Council spokesman.

Cabinet member for children and young people’s services, councillor Philip Owen, said it is an important decision for families.

“Applying for a place at school is an important decision for families and we would encourage parents to make sure they apply in good time,” he added.

“We would also recommend that parents use all four preferences when selecting a school for their child.”

The closing date for first applications to primary school is 15th January and the offer date for primary places is 13th April.

Parents can apply on line at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk or telephone (01623) 433388 or (01623) 433052.
