Party in the Pews at Louth’s St James’ Church

THE Party in the Pews, an evening of free entertainment at Louth’s St James’ Church, is at 6pm on Friday July 1.

The church’s magnificent interior will ring to the sound of Brazilian drummer Claudio and popular songs sung by West End musicals singer Cheryl Smith, whilst the nave will be a temporary catwalk for a fashion show by local clothes shops and a dance floor for two celidhs to the music of Patrick Purves and his band.

Local schools will put on a variety of performances, a local acoustic band will play a series of short sets and the evening will be rounded off with something more familiar to churchgoers: a stirring organ recital.

There will be food (including a hog roast and vegetarian treats from Jolley’s Kitchen) and drink for sale.

Timetable of main events: 6pm Performances by Kidgate and St Michael’s primary schools; 6.40pm Trip To The Roses acoustic band first set; 6.50pm Claudio and Lacey Gardens Junior School drummers parade into church; 7.10pm Fashion Show by Feathers, Luck of Louth, Mode and Spinning Wheel; 7.50pm Drumming by Claudio on promenade around the aisles; 8.10pm Ceilidh No.1; 8.30pm Trip To The Roses second set; 8.40pm Music and poetry by pupils from Cordeaux School; 9pm Cheryl Smith sings Perfect Day, Somewhere (West Side Story) and Memory (Cats); 9.15pm Ceilidh No.2; 9.45pm Organ recital by William Weir.
