Penning tattoo poppies in remembrance

A GAINSBOROUGH tattoo artist spent Remembrance Day penning permanent poppies on his customers in the name of charity.

Tony Bayly, who owns Ashby Ink Tattoo Studio in Scunthorpe, was kept busy all day by people who wanted the symbolic red flower inking on their skin.

Prices started from £10 for the tiniest tattoo, and all proceeds went to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.

“It was a total success. We raised £600 and I have more poppy tattoos to do throughout the next couple of weeks,” said Tony, who lives on Morton Terrace in Gainsborough.

“Thank you to everyone who came and waited for ages to get their tattoo, and for those who donated money and didn’t even want a tattoo doing.”

Tony said the tattoo shop was busy from 10am-7pm on Sunday as people queued for their marks of respect.

He did 29 on the day and has seven more booked in.
