Our smiling Mayor, Coun Jimmy Brookes, has spoken of his pride at serving the town as he prepares to step down from the role.
From attendind the town’s major events to sharing memorable moments, you can always rely on Coun Brookes to share them with a sense of fun.
As he comes to the end of his year in office, he said it had been “truly memorable and rewarding”.
Ahead of the Annual Meeting of Skegness Town Council, he said: “It has been a genuine honour to serve the town in this role and to represent the people and communities that make Skegness so special.”
During his mayoral year, Coun Brookes attended a wide range of events, meeting residents, volunteers, businesses and organisations across the town.
Reflecting on his time in office, he said the strongest memory would be the town’s community spirit.
“Time and time again, I have seen people giving their time, energy and support to others, often without recognition, simply because they care,” he said.
He added that supporting local charities and initiatives had been a highlight of the role.
Coun Brookes said key civic occasions, including Remembrance events, stood out during his time as mayor. He said: “These occasions serve as a powerful reminder of the shared values and history that unite us.”
He also stressed the importance of being visible and approachable in the role. “Being Mayor is not just about attending events; it is about listening to residents and understanding their concerns, he added.
