‘A park with real heart’: Mellors Group's latest major attraction takeover sparks excitement
The family-owned Mellors Group, best known locally for operating Fantasy Island and the Skegness Pier, has announced its latest major acquisition — Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park in Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Backed by decades of experience running and revitalising attractions across the UK and internationally, the Nottingham-based company says it plans new rides and investment in 2026 to refresh the popular park, while continuing to cater for younger families.
Since acquiring Fantasy Island in 2016, the Mellors Group has transformed it into one of the UK’s most successful seaside theme parks, alongside operating major attractions, and events across the UK and internationally.
Lightwater Valley, originally established in 1969 and now home to more than 35 rides, family adventures, character entertainment and seasonal events, will benefit from fresh vision and investment designed to strengthen its legacy while exciting a new generation of visitors.

James Mellors, Managing Director, said: "Lightwater Valley is a park with real heart, history, personality and potential.
"Our goal is to put the park back ‘on the map’ as a major theme park, by introducing new rides, injecting new energy, and creating something truly special for families."
Locals and visitors are no doubt wondering what this could mean for Fantasy Island and the Pier. Could we see new rides, events, or updates at the town’s flagship attractions under the same owners? While no announcements have been made for Skegness yet, there is bound to be speculation.
We’d like to hear from you — what changes would you like to see at Fantasy Island or the Pier? Could investment like that planned for Lightwater Valley spark a new chapter for Skegness’ entertainment scene?
