‘A win-win situation’: New technology helps Lincolnshire residents live independently at home

A new online tool is highlighting how technology can help older and disabled people across Lincolnshire continue living safely and independently in their own homes.

The interactive Gadgets, Tools and Technology House, now live on the Connect to Support Lincolnshire website, shows how the right equipment can make everyday life easier. Users can click on different rooms in a virtual house to explore a range of assistive technologies designed to support daily tasks such as washing, cooking and taking medication.

The tool features practical examples including smart ovens and kettles, automatic medication dispensers, colour-changing taps and showers, GPS location trackers and even robotic pets designed to offer companionship.

Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) says technology-enabled care can play a key role in helping residents remain at home for longer, while also offering reassurance to families and carers.

Councillor Steve Clegg, LCC executive member for adult care and health, said many people simply want to carry on living their normal lives at home for as long as possible.

He said: “Technology-enabled care not only helps people maintain their independence and stay in their own home for longer, but it can also give carers real-time updates on their loved one’s location and condition, providing peace of mind.

“The technology is improving all the time, helping to enhance the experience of those receiving care and enabling the council to better manage the increasing demand for services.

“It’s revolutionising 21st century care, offering both better support and better value for money – it really is a win-win situation.”

The Gadgets, Tools and Technology House is available now via the Connect to Support Lincolnshire website and is aimed at residents, carers and families looking to explore practical ways technology can support independent living.
