Alice will walk 100k for blind veterans appeal

Alice Davies, 20, recently completed all levels of her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and was looking for a new challenge to take on when she came across the 100k Yorkshire in aid of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-service men and women.

Alice said: “I know it’s going to be hard to complete the 100km (62 miles) but it will be worth it as it’s for such a brilliant charity.”

Alice’s father has been in the RAF since before she was born. He is now a Squadron Leader and has served in former Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

She said: “I feel it’s important to give back to the veterans who have served our country.”

Alice is studying to become a nurse and has seen first-hand the struggles vision-impaired people have in everyday life. She’s also been to Headley Court, the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, where some of the veterans have been supported by Blind Veterans UK in their rehabilitation.

Alice is looking forward to the challenge which will kick off in Denby Dale on Saturday June 18 as a joint fundraising event for Blind Veterans UK and Guide Dogs. Participants will walk the hills, moors and villages of Yorkshire and the Peak District, finishing in Sheffield.
