For the past month, Sandy Fetters, from Welton, has been juggling childminding, looking after her own two children - and working late into the evening to make her masks.

She has now sold more than 500 face masks through a Facebook page, posting them to people across the UK.

And Sandy has even created a special window mask to help people who need to lip read - including her teenage daughter, Maddy, who is deaf.

The money she has raised has been donated to Rennie Grove Hospice in St Albans, which cared for her friend, Gina, who died earlier this year.

Sandy, who has had two evenings off in the past month, said: “I’m a bit overwhelmed, it’s been really emotional - and a lot of hard work.

“Quite often I’m still sewing and the family is watching a film and I feel so tired, then I remember why I’m doing it and it drives me on.

“I decided to make masks for my family, and then I did some for the mums from school, and it all just went from there.

“I really wanted the proceeds to go to a good cause and it’s been wonderful to give something back to the hospice that helped my friend.”

The latest government rules mean everyone must now wear a face mask on public transport.

All proceeds from Sandy’s face masks are donated to charity.
