'An experience for everyone': New padel courts opens bringing world’s fastest-growing sport to Skegness

The Lincolnshire coast is serving up a brand-new sporting experience following the official opening of Skegness Padel, giving residents and visitors the chance to try one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

The new facility enjoyed a successful soft opening over the weekend, with visitors invited to have a go on the courts ahead of its official launch. It was formally opened by the Mayor of Skegness, Jimmy Brookes.

A blessing was given by Father Aiden from the Burgh and Wainfleet group of Churches.

Located on the edge of town, past the new TEC College on the A52 towards Wainfleet, the venue features two indoor Panoramic Pro Padel courts, alongside a licensed bar and seating areas — ideal for relaxing after a game.

The concept was first developed in October 2025, with work beginning in January 2026 after the acquisition of Simons Yard. Two local families have since transformed a 70-year-old, 800-square-metre grainstore into a modern sports venue for the community.

Sue Bowser, a co-founder in the family-run business, said: “We were delighted with the support for our opening weekend and it demonstrated that playing padel is for everyone!”

Co-founder Jenny Russell added: “Padel is the fastest-growing sport in the world and Skegness has very limited racquet sport facilities. We are delighted to be bringing a fantastic new facility to the local area where fitness, fun, and community are at the core.”

Padel — a mix of tennis and squash played in doubles on a smaller, enclosed court — has seen rapid growth worldwide. In the UK, the number of courts has increased significantly in recent years, with Lincolnshire home to only a small number of dedicated venues.

The new courts are expected to become a hub for local players and attract visitors from across the county, offering opportunities for casual games, coaching sessions and competitive leagues.

Skegness Padel is now open to the public, with more information available via its Facebook page.
