As reported earlier this afternoon (Friday), dozens of people have been spotted in, and around, the water at the reservoir recently - despite all the signs warning against the potential risks.

Covenham Water Sports Association co-chairman, Paul Rickett, issued a heartfelt plea earlier today and concluded: "The last thing we want up there is an injury or fatality.”

This evening, an Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Following recent reports of trespassers accessing Covenham Reservoir and jumping into the water from the control tower, we’d like to remind people not to enter the water under any circumstance. Swimming in our reservoirs is illegal and extremely unsafe.

"The water may look inviting on a hot day but there are hidden dangers, currents and cold temperatures below the surface.

"Covenham is a fully operational site and our staff aren’t trained lifeguards if visitors were to get into any difficulty.”
