Award-winners who received their colours are able to wear a coloured tie which corresponds to the area they impressed in.

Anyone receiving a half-colour can wear a ribbon on their blazer.

The school described all the award winners as ‘excellent role models’.

And they believe the winners could inspire more students.

our members of staff - Mr Bollan, Mrs Sheehan, Mrs Hunter and Mr Marriott - were in charge of the scheme and said they were ‘extremely proud’ of all the students’ efforts.

In a joint statement, the staff members explained: “For the past few years, Banovallum School has operated a unique reward system where students can gain specially coloured ties for outstanding achievements across a variety of subject areas.

“They are CADT (blue), sport (purple), SMSC (orange) and, most recently, humanities (burgundy).

“In addition to the coloured ties, students can also gain half-colours, highlighted by a coloured ribbon worn on their blazers.

“These rewards are highly sought after by the students, with many always ready and willing to go the ‘extra mile’ to work towards them.

“This term, we have rewarded several students across Years 9, 10 and 11 for outstanding efforts across these subject areas since the start of the calendar year and through the period of lockdown.

“Whilst many of the usual methods of gaining colours, such as representing the school at sporting events and regional competitions, have been unavailable due to Covid-19, Banovallum students rose to the challenge and impressed us in a variety of other ways.

“During lockdown we were amazed by energetic exercise videos, dazzling artistic creations, engagement with wider academic reading and help provided in the local community.

“Those gaining their colours this term really represent the best of what Banovallum students have to offer.
