“My sadness at this time is shared with Members and Officers of the Council and, I am sure, all residents across the whole of the Borough of Boston, as we remember with affection and gratitude the lifetime of service given to the country by His Royal Highness and for the loyal and dedicated support to Her Majesty as Consort and husband.

“As a mark of respect the Union Flag will be flown at half-mast on the Council flagpole until the morning following the funeral.”

A ceremonial royal funeral for Prince Philip will be held at St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, at 15:00 BST on Saturday, 17 April. The event will be televised.

A national period of mourning across the UK will remain in place until then.
