Like most indoor sporting activities, Horncastle Indoor Bowls Club has been closed because of Covid-19 restrictions.

However, they can now return to the rinks in a safe manner following a number of new Covid regulations in place.

So members can see how the club has been changed to comply with current rules, the club is holding a members open day tomorrow (Thursday) from 10am-noon.

The event will give members the opportunity to see how the club has conformed to the regulations - and followed the Covid protocols to make the play as safe as possible.

As the venue is limited to the number of social members allowed in at one time, a ‘one-in, one-out’ policy will be in operation.

A lot of hard work has been undertaken behind the scenes by directors, committee members and volunteers to get to this stage.

Bowling came to an abrupt halt mid-March following the club’s successful Gala Day.

To comply with the current protocol, the club has changed slightly, switching from five rinks to four to make it easier for two-metre social distancing to take place.

Members’ temperatures are taken as they enter the club; face coverings have to be worn on entry but can be removed while playing.

Initially, the club is open Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-12 and 6.30-8.30pm.

All clubs are governed by the EIBA whose rules are ratified by the government’s Department for Sports, Media and Culture.

All play has to be booked and there are no walk-ins and no spectators allowed at present. The club has been inspected by East Lindsey District Council Environmental Department and it has been confirmed that all correct COVID protocols are in place.
