Boxing champ’s knockout gift to bring smiles to Skegness kids
Skegness is set to welcome hundreds of excited children this year thanks to a generous £30,000 donation from Derby boxing star Alan Graves Jr.
The former World Middleweight Champion, who wowed thousands with his knockout win over Germany’s David Kerkmann in his “Homecoming” fight on December 20, chose to give back to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre – the charity that runs seaside breaks for primary-aged children at its Skegness base.
The centre has been offering free holidays since 1891, giving youngsters who might otherwise miss out a chance to enjoy the sea, sand, and fun of the Lincolnshire coast. After pausing operations last year for a major fundraising push, the donation from Alan will help the charity reopen for 2026 and expand its support, including low-cost school residential trips.
Alan, who only took up boxing two years ago at the age of 33, says the donation is personal. “The Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre is very close to my heart – my grandma Joyce actually stayed here in the 1950s,” he said. “It’s a local charity that makes a real difference, and this was my opportunity to give something back.”

Charity CEO Janine Holmes added: “Alan’s incredible gift will have a huge impact on the work we do here in Skegness. We’re thrilled to be welcoming children back to the seaside this year, and this donation will help ensure we can continue to offer free holidays for years to come.”
From the ring to the seaside, Alan’s knockout generosity is already making a lasting impression in Skegness.
