They’re creating their very own community woodland on a hillside above the picturesque Wolds village.

Thanks to grant funding – and a team of volunteers –around 250 trees have been planted in a formal arrangement.

Others – supplied by donors and residents – have been planted in a more random pattern. They include fruit trees.

There’s also a pond (ideal for wildlife) and plans for a sheltered seating area.

An entrance arch – supplied and fitted by Rob Short – is now in place off Fulletby Hill.

Parish Council chairman John Smith said: “All we need now is for people to use this amazing asset.”

The area has been named Hayes Furlong Wood and there is an opportunity to get involved.

For a donation of £20, the parish council will buy and plant a native tree, stake it and look after it.

The tree will also have a modest plaque, made of long-lasting material, with a dedication to anyone of the donor’s choice.

For example, it could be a celebration of someone’s life, or a favourite pet.

The plaque will be limited to 20 characters.

Mr Smith added: “All the trees will be pot grown and from a local source so within reason, they can be planted at any time. This could be your very own contribution to carbon offsetting - and in your own community.”
